Flowforms Yoga was created by Julie Dhara Roberts in 1999. Flowforms Yoga was named honoring the connection between the natural pulsation of the universe and the process of practicing yoga.

Upon completion of her bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering (with concentration in Fluid Mechanics) from Boston University, Julie worked as an ecological engineer, concerned with designing natural and ecological solutions to cleaning the waters of the planet. To this end, she used a creation called Flowforms - designed to naturally clean and purify water. Flowforms moves water through spiraling, vortex patterns fashioned after the natural movement of water in a streambed. (for more fascinating info on this subject, check out www.lindros.co.za/flowforms.htm and the yoga links page) By leading water thru this natural movement, the water "remembers" its vibrational essence - a pure clean state. Water is a life sustaining element, that needs rhythmical movement to regenerate and bring vitality into itself. The psychological effect of the contraction and expansion of the rhythmical movements of the Flowform is of a calming quality and can produce an enlivening and awakening of the senses.

The same can be said of the practice of yoga. Yoga has strong internal and energetic effects on our bodies. The body is primarily water, and water is known to have a resonant healing effect on the whole being. By moving the body through an organic, flowing series of forms, movements and postures (asansas), we can come back to our base vibration - our natural essence. . Yoga is an ecological experience - an opportunity to use the power and will of the physical body to vastly alter the consciousness of the entire being - a return to the remembering of your natural state of truth, goodness and light.

As Julie’s practice of yoga deepened, and as she trained to become an instructor, the relationship between her work of healing the planet through ecological engineering and the healing work of the individual through the practice of yoga was clear. Flowforms Yoga was created to honor the link between these two aspects of healing work.

In 1999, Julie discovered the Anusara system of yoga (founded by John Friend) and it was like coming home. Anusara Yoga, from its foundation of Rajanika Tantra Philosoghy, is about experience and celebration of the pulsation of the universe, the interconnectedness of all things and celebration of our most essential goodness and light. In the study and instruction of this state-of the art evolved style of Hatha Yoga, Julie has found a philosophy that resonates with her deepest knowing and a community (kula) of like minded practitioners on the path.

The principles she was experiencing in her personal yogic transformation compelled her to leave her career as an engineer, and focus all of her energies on yoga.  She has been teaching throughout the Central Massachusetts community since 1999. During this time, she has trained with John Friend, Deb Neubauer, Ann Greene, and Todd Norian to continue her Anusara journey. She has attended Levels 1 and 2 Anusara Yoga Teacher Training, and deepens her studies continually in advanced trainings and workshops.  She is in the process of completing her Certification in Anusara Yoga, and is currently an Anusara Affiliated Instructor.  Julie is also a trained healer and student of Sat Nam Rasayan, a branch if yogic vibrational healing.  Julie merges the her devotion to healing the earth and the practice of sacred ecology in her yoga instruction. By changing the landscape of the world within you, you can bring powerful lasting change to the world around you.

In 2004 Julie partnered with Jennifer Faldetta and recreated Flowforms Yoga.  We have established a beautiful community yoga studio, a center for Anusara Yoga and Healing in Worcester, MA.  Together with other like minded teachers from the community, we will be offering a wide variety of weekly group classes and special workshops.

Our mission is to use the practice of Yoga to create spiritual community - to foster connections and facilitate healing of people and the planet.
